Stock Exchanges exist in the market through which an individual or the corporations can trade the shares listed therein. In India two stock Exchanges are prevalent which are the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange(NSE).

BSE(Located in Mumbai):
BSE is the Asia's first stock exchange and the oldest stock exchange established in 1875 A.D.
This is the world's 11th largest stock exchange in terms of market capitalization which stands at $1.83 Trillion as of March, 2017. More than 5500 companies have been listed on this stock exchange.
BSE sensex index has been developed which act as an overall performance of the INDEX. This Index Comprises of top 30 Financially sound Companies. The Companies listed under this Index almost comprises of 45-50% of market Cap. of BSE.

NSE (Located in Mumbai):
NSE was established in 1992 as the first demutualized electronic exchange in the country. NSE was the first exchange in the country to provide a modern, fully automated screen-based electronic trading system which offered easy trading facility to the investors spread across the length and breadth of the country. This Exchange is the world's 12th largest exchange in terms of market cap. standing at more than US$1.41 trillion.
Similar to BSE SENSEX, NSE has NIFTY 50 which act as a benchmark, In which top 50 Financially sound companies are enlisted.

In order to regulate this market there exists a market regulator which is know as Securities exchange Board of India (SEBI) and powers are governed by the SEBI Act 1992.It was initially the private body but later on it became an autonomous body by the Government of India. It is headquartered in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai.
